Official: Fredrick in Nigeria waiting for a work permit after switching European clubs

With a statement on the official website, Swedish Ettan Norra club Umea FC have announced the signing of defensive midfielder Fredrick Godwin.

By signing a contract that runs through the 2028 Swedish season, Fredrick ended his association with Norwegian second tier club Mjöndalen IF, where he spent just a season.

However, the move has not been fully completed as Fredrick is currently in Nigeria waiting for a work permit.

During his time in Norway, he appeared in twenty-six matches across all competitions, logging 1,303 minutes.

Fredrick describes himself as hard-working, disciplined, strong and team-oriented, adding that he likes to stay focused, do the simple things well, help the team in any way he can, while contributing with energy every time he steps onto the pitch.

Commenting on the signing of Fredrick, Umea sporting director Adam Chennoufi said: "Fredrick is a defensive midfielder who works over large areas and never gives up. Despite his size, he is a strong and intense duel player who is also a good ball player."

Fredrick is the second African signed by Umea in recent days, after Zambian offensive player Zishim Bawa, who joined from Irish top division team Drogheda United.

Former Super Eagles centre-bak Gbenga Arokoyo and Frankline Okoye have represented Umea FC in the past.
