English Premier League powerhouse Manchester United have confirmed that highly-rated midfielder James Garner has inked his first professional contract with the club.
The 17-year-old captained the Young Lions in this month's 2018 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, helping the world champions reach the semifinals of the tourney.
Predominantly a midfielder, the Birkenhead native can play anywhere in the backline and made 19 starts for the Red Devils in the U18 Premier League over the course of last season.
''I'm made up. Obviously, it's what I've been working for since the Under-8s and Under-9s. I'm proud for myself and for my family but I think it's only the start,'' Garner told United's official website
''My mum, dad, grandad and auntie have all come along and it's just a proud moment.''
James Garner has been identified as a player with leadership qualities and captained Manchester United U16s prior to his promotion to the U18 squad.
