Nigeria icon Jay-Jay Okocha has blasted Umar Sadiq for his missed goalscoring opportunity during the first half of the Super Eagles 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in their final group game of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday night.
It was the Almeria striker that gave Nigeria the lead in the 56th minute, but in truth he wasn't having the best of games before he managed to break the deadlock, leading to his replacement shortly after he netted his first senior goal.
Midway through the first half, Sadiq was presented with an opportunity to open the scoring when he received the ball in the area but could not sort his feet out in time and the danger was cleared.
Okocha criticized the rangy attacker for his poor decision making in front of goal, adding that he should have passed the ball to Kelechi Iheanacho, who was behind him.
Speaking on SuperSport, Okocha said : "I think tall strikers most of the time struggle with their feet and a striker with quicker football control would have tucked that one in.
"His decision making there was poor, if you can't round the goalkeeper then you should be able to pick your colleague that is coming from behind but he made the wrong decision there."
Sadiq made his starting debut against Guinea-Bissau after featuring off the bench in previous AFCON matches with Egypt and Sudan.
