'One game at a time' - Okonkwo reacts after crucial saves in Wrexham's win against Swansea

Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has admitted the race for the playoffs remains “tight” after delivering another standout performance in his side’s 2–0 victory over Swansea City on Friday night.

The shot-stopper played a decisive role in the win, producing a series of crucial saves to secure his 11th clean sheet of the season and help Wrexham strengthen their push for a playoff place.

Okonkwo was particularly impressive during key moments of the contest, making three important saves to deny Swansea and preserve Wrexham’s advantage. His commanding display between the posts earned him the Man of the Match award.

Speaking after the match to Sky Sports, the 24-year-old reflected on his performance and the importance of securing both the victory and the clean sheet.

"Reacting to the situations that came to me today (on Friday). I just have to get the three points and the clean sheet as well, which is well-deserved," Okonkwo said.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper also praised the collective effort of the team, particularly the defensive unit, while acknowledging the intense competition for a playoff spot.

"I think the boys at the back and everyone around defending set-pieces were good today. It is tight but we are trying to focus, one game at a time, and see what happens in the end," he added.

Okonkwo, who is eligible to represent both Nigeria and England at international level, is reportedly among the players being monitored by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Although he has previously represented England at youth level, the goalkeeper is believed to be open to switching allegiance to Nigeria.

Should that happen, he could provide strong competition for current Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali in future international tournaments.

With nine matches remaining this season, Wrexham currently occupy the final playoff spot with 60 points from 37 games, keeping their promotion hopes firmly alive as the campaign enters its decisive phase.
