Onuachu explains why he took Genk's second penalty after missing the first vs RFC Seraing
Paul Onuachu has explained the reasoning behind his decision to
take the second penalty awarded to Racing Genk during their 3-0 rout of
RFC Seraing in a Belgian First Division A match at Cegeka Arena on
Sunday night.
The Nigeria international
fluffed a golden chance to give Genk the lead when he
uncharacteristically missed from the spot in the 33rd minute.
Prior
to last night's fixture, Onuachu had not missed a spot kick, scoring
eleven penalties against six different teams namely Royal Antwerp (2),
Royale Union Saint Gilloise, RSC Charleroi, KV Oostende (3), KAS Eupen
(3) and Beerschot.
"Of course I wasn't happy
that I shot the ball wide. But the day will come when you miss and that
was today," Onuachu was quoted as saying by Voetbalkrant.
Three
minutes before halftime, the current Belgian Professional Footballer of
the Year kept his nerve to open the scoring from the spot.
"I
could have let someone else kick. But I don't want to shy away from my
responsibility. Bryan Heynen fulfilled his role of captain at that
stage. "Paul, focus. Just pop it in," he told me."
So far this season, Onuachu has tallied an impressive 11 goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for Racing Genk.
