Paul Onuachu strengthens case for Super Eagles recall with brace for Trabzonspor

Paul Onuachu was the star for Trabzonspor as they secured a 3-1 home win over Konyaspor in Round 14 of the Türkiye Süper Lig on Saturday.

The Nigerian striker scored twice, including a penalty in the first half, to help his side recover from an early own goal by Okay Yokuşlu that had put Konyaspor ahead in the 17th minute.

Onuachu’s first goal came in the 43rd minute when he converted a penalty awarded after a foul on teammate Ernest Muçi.

Five minutes into the second half, Onuachu doubled Trabzonspor’s lead with a precise finish from the center of the box.

Ernest Muçi later added the third goal in the 56th minute from a free kick, completing the 3-1 victory for the hosts.

The win was another significant contribution from Onuachu, who has been in excellent form this season.

The striker has now scored 11 goals and provided one assist in 14 league appearances for Trabzonspor.

After missing previous matches for the Super Eagles, Onuachu will be hoping to earn a place in Eric Chelle’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Morocco this December.

His recent performances for Trabzonspor are likely to strengthen his case for inclusion in the national team setup.
