Opinion : Five reasons Chelsea need to take a look at Super Eagles-eligible midfielder

The transfer market is moving quite quickly with clubs around the world making deals to strengthen their various playing squads before preseason training and matches begin.

After a somewhat slow start, the Blues have launched an assault on the transfer market with the signing of superstars like Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.

The club are also reported to be in talks to sign French defender Jules Kounde from Sevilla.

Surely, the transfer movements from Chelsea are exciting, but the London giants have to take a look at the possibility of signing Nigeria-eligible central midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

The 18-year-old had a great time with the England squad at the U19 Euros, helping them to glory in the prestigious competition.

His performances have been electrifying and it is no surprise that he has been linked with moves to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.

Allnigeriasoccer.com believes the Blues should take a look at the midfield wonderkid with five reasons outlined.

Contractual Situation

Chukwuemeka has a year left on his existing contract at Aston Villa and the Gunners can get him at a reduced fee.

Being a homegrown talent with the quality he possesses, Chukwuemeka is a great deal that should not be passed on as he is very likely to command a huge fee in the future when he matures.

Squad refresh/upgrade

Taking a look at Chelsea's midfield, N'Kolo Kante is 31 years old and has had numerous injury issues.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has not shown the desired quality to be a starter week in, week out. Kovacic has also had some injury issues which means sooner or later, reinforcements will be needed in that position.

Bringing Chukwuemeka in early is a sign of good planning as he can learn the ropes in one or two years from some of the best in the game and eventually take over from them.

Quality

The Anglo-Nigerian is a powerful, skilful & creative box-to-box midfielder. He has good physical strength, power, stamina and natural fitness in a midfield pivot, as a roaming number eight or as a pure between-the-lines midfielder.

In the event that Thomas Tuchel decides to go with a 4-3-3, Chukwuemeka is good enough to play any role in this modern formation.

One thing that catches the eye is that Chukwuemeka is a press-resistant player. This is a rare trait for a player of his age.

Progression

While Chukwuemeka can not be the starting midfielder for the Blues, his progression is far ahead of his peers who play in his role.

Last season, he made 12 Premier League appearances with two of them being starts, whilst notching one assist. He is very likely to develop into a key player in the near future.

Control

Modern football is focused on control in every facet of play. Thomas Tuchel is a strong disciple of this philosophy as is evident in how Chelsea controls possession.

Control is achieved by having more technicians in deeper areas and Chukwuemeka can provide more options for Tuchel, especially in Cup and some League games as the Blues fight on four fronts next season.
