Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen faces a fitness test before Galatasaray's crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, as he closes in on a European scoring record last achieved by Robert Lewandowski.
Osimhen picked up a muscle injury during Nigeria's 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff defeat to DR Congo in Morocco, where the Super Eagles lost 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
After returning to Istanbul, the forward underwent an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury and subsequently missed Galatasaray's 3-2 win over Gençlerbirliği at Rams Park on Saturday.
The 26-year-old remains doubtful for the midweek Champions League encounter after failing to participate in Sunday's training session.
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk will be hoping the club's leading marksman recovers in time, especially given his explosive form on the continental stage.
Osimhen is currently the top scorer in the Champions League this season, netting six goals in just three matches.
His consistency in Europe has placed him on the brink of equalling Lewandowski's remarkable achievement of scoring in nine consecutive UEFA club competition games, a run the Polish striker set between November 2020 and November 2021.
The Nigerian star is already on an eight-match scoring streak in European competitions, dating back to last season.
During the impressive run, he has found the back of the net against Liverpool, Bodø/Glimt, Ajax (2), Tottenham Hotspur, AZ Alkmaar, and Dynamo Kyiv (2).
The Turkish giants will be desperate to have their in-form striker available as they push for qualification in a tightly contested Champions League group.
