Osimhen's ex-Golden Eaglets teammate Ebere goes viral after title-winning goal for Nacional

Christian Ebere, who currently plays for Club Nacional de Football in Uruguay, was an U17 World Cup champion in 2015 with the Golden Eaglets, where he formed part of the attack alongside Victor Osimhen.

Since then, Ebere and Osimhen have become friends and, as he revealed some time ago, they remain in contact mainly through the social network Instagram.

This Sunday, Ebere captured the attention of the most important sports media outlets in South America after scoring the goal that earned his team a historic title against their traditional rivals, Club Atlético Peñarol.

The Nigerian forward came on during extra time and, after having a few opportunities to break the deadlock, finally managed to score a dramatic goal in the 113th minute that sent the packed Gran Parque Central stadium into raptures.

Following the referee’s final whistle, the name Osinachi Christian Ebere went viral across the country’s social networks, and hours later media outlets in Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia and, of course, Uruguay, among others, highlighted the striker's crucial performance.

ESPN, Olé (Argentina), Diario ABC (Paraguay), Cadena Caracol (Colombia), El Observador, Montevideo Portal and El País (Uruguay) were just some of the media organisations that praised Nacional’s title win and the outstanding display by the Nigerian.

For Ebere—shaped by the intensity of Nigerian football and who made the leap to South America in search of an opportunity—this moment encapsulates a story that began many years ago and carries double value: not only has he earned his place, but he has done so by being decisive when it mattered most.

At this point, some believe that, with consistent playing time, he may earn a move to bigger leagues to continue his development, giving him a very promising future.

What is clear is that Ebere did not come to Uruguay merely to play; he came to make history—and he is succeeding.
