Black Stars ace Thomas Partey hopes to bring more Ghanaian fans to support Arsenal in the wake of his move to the Emirates Stadium on transfer deadline day.
Traditionally, most Nigerians support Arsenal because of the exploits of Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu at the club, while Ghanaian fans tend to back Chelsea due to Michael Essien who spent nine years at Stamford Bridge.
Signed from Inter Milan in February 1999 when he was 22, Kanu won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the FA Charity Shield before
the Nigerian departed the north London club in the summer of 2004.
The 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medalist racked up 197 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, scoring 44 goals and notched 28 assists.
When asked how he can bring more Ghana fans to support Arsenal just as Kanu inspired Nigerians to, Partey told Arsenal's matchday programme : "Now most of the young guys are looking up to me and I think I have to do my best to make sure I get them to support this great family.
"When they support me, they're going to feel good when they see us play".
Fifteen players of Nigerian descent, including Bukayo Saka, have been registered by Arsenal for the Premier League via the U21 list and scholars but only twelve are eligible to play in the first half of the 2020-21 season.
