Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has downplayed concerns surrounding a brief on-field incident involving Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the last 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking after the match, Simon insisted there was nothing unusual about the moment and stressed the unity within the Nigerian camp.
The incident, which drew attention during Nigeria’s dominant display at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, sparked discussion among observers, but Simon was quick to dismiss any suggestion of discord.
Reflecting on what he witnessed, the Paris FC forward told reporters in the mixed zone, "I think I didn't see anything actually which some people said he did something bad."
Simon explained that competitive exchanges are a normal part of high-level football, particularly within a team driven by ambition and a desire to succeed.
Emphasising Osimhen’s importance to the squad, he added, "But of course we are a team there's nothing to talk about he's a guy we know he's always a fighter in the team of course he will still fight for us."
The winger highlighted the strong bond among the players and the collective responsibility shared within the squad as Nigeria continues its Afcon campaign.
He underlined the mutual reliance between individuals and the team, saying, "We need him and the team need him and I believe he need us also we just need to keep going."
Nigeria’s performance against Mozambique was marked by attacking fluidity and defensive solidity, with goals from Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Akor Adams securing a comfortable passage into the quarter-finals.
Osimhen scored twice, while Lookman and Adams both made decisive contributions, reinforcing the Super Eagles’ credentials as serious contenders for the title.
The Super Eagles now turn their attention to the next round, confident that unity and collective purpose will continue to drive their progress at the tournament.
