Preston North End closing in on deal for former Man Utd fullback of Nigerian descent

Nigeria-eligible fullback Matthew Olosunde is close to a move to Championship outfit Preston North End, according to reports.

LancsLive says Preston North End are on the brink of confirming the signing of one-cap United States international Olosunde.

The Lilywhites are in desperate need of a right-back ahead of the new season following the departure of Darnell Fisher to Middlesbrough in January, while Dutchman Sepp van den Berg has returned to parent club Liverpool.

Rotherham United are keen to re-engage with Olosunde with his current deal set to run out on June 30 but it appears that they have made no headway in contract extension talks.

The 23-year-old has been at the Millers since July 2019 following his release by Manchester United, where he struggled to break into the first team.

He trained with Manchester United's senior team several times and was named in the provisional squad for Premier League matches against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in 2017.

Should Olosunde's move to Preston North End go through as expected, Roterham United would be due compensation as he is an U24 player.

Last season, the defender appeared in 32 matches in the Championship and provided three assists.
