Belgian cup winners Racing Genk are reportedly on the brink of finalizing the signing of Super Eagles hopeful Ike Ugbo.
Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad is speculating that the Chelsea striker is about to sign for Genk for a fee of 3.5 million euros.
Despite scoring in a pre-season friendly against Bournemouth, Ugbo is surplus to requirements at Chelsea, with manager Thomas Tuchel omitting him from the Super Cup roster and the club's last two pre-season fixtures against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
The 22-year-old is set to become the second Nigeria-eligible player signed by Genk in the summer transfer window, after Spanish-born center-back Mujaid Sadick Aliu.
He had an impressive spell at Cercle Brugge in 2020-2021, mustering 17 goals in 34 matches across all competitions and was Chelsea's top-scoring loanee.
Ugbo would be featuring in the group stage of the Europa League if his transfer to Racing Genk materializes.
Genk could not keep alive their dream of reaching the Champions League proper after they were beaten by Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday despite Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers getting on the scoresheet in the closing minutes.
