Rangers centre-back keen to represent Nigeria scores sixth goal of the season

Rangers defender Emmanuel Fernandez scored his sixth goal of the season during Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Livingston in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

The dual-national defender, who is eligible to represent both England and Nigeria at international level, found the back of the net as Rangers fought back from two goals down to secure a point.

Fernandez scored with a powerful finish from close range after a long throw-in caused problems inside the Livingston penalty area.

The goal reduced the deficit for Rangers and came in the closing stages of the match as the visitors pushed for a comeback.

Fernandez has now reached six goals for the season across all competitions.

The central defender has expressed interest in representing Nigeria at international level.

However, he is yet to receive an official approach from the Nigeria Football Federation or manager Eric Chelle regarding a potential international call-up.

Rangers fell behind early in the match when Livingston opened the scoring through Brooklyn Kabongolo, who converted from a free-kick delivery.

Livingston extended their lead in the second half through Lewis Smith, who scored with a strike across goal to give the home side a 2-0 advantage.

Despite trailing, Rangers continued to press for goals. The team introduced attacking changes as they searched for a response.

Fernandez’s goal in the 82nd minute provided momentum for the visitors as they attempted to complete a comeback.

Rangers completed the turnaround moments later when Mikey Moore scored an equaliser in the 88th minute from a cross delivered by captain James Tavernier.
