Watford manager Claudio Ranieri was visibly disappointed after his side's 2-1 loss to Brentford in a Premier League clash at the Brentford Community Stadium on Friday night.
Six minutes to the end of the game, Pontus Jansson nicked in between two Watford players including Troost-Ekong and headed the ball into the net from close range.
In stoppage time, the Super Eagles assistant captain gave away a penalty for a reckless challenge on Ghoddos that cost Watford a point in the game they were leading 1-0 with seven minutes left on the clock.
Quizzed about his defence, Ranieri was quoted as saying by Watford Observer : "Now we will see everything, I will speak with [Troost-Ekong]," he continued.
"Also I will have to see if there are some players ready to play because my defensive line is not ready to play. Kabasele tonight wasn’t ready, Sierralta isn’t ready. I have to see."
In truth, Troost-Ekong has shown he is not up to Premier League standard, committing errors upon errors since the start of the season, and his form at international level has been indifferent to say the least.
