Former Hapoel Tel Aviv Star Zito Ogbonna Fancies Return To Israel
Published: October 21, 2013Former Hapoel Tel Aviv striker Zito Ogbonna is arguably the top Nigerian player to grace the Israeli Premier League in the last 15 years.
The 30 - year - old free agent who is now based in Lagos was on the payroll of Hapoel Tel Aviv from 2003 - 2007.
He is remembered in Israel for scoring a hat-trick against Beitar Jerusalem on January 4, 2004.
“My career crashed immediately after my record for Hapoel, which brought me a huge contract in Cluj.
“I’m not happy about how things turned out and I wish I could turn the clock back.
“Football is a lot of ups and downs during his career, but I can not complain that football taught me a lot about life and made me a better person and more disciplined,” Zito Ogbonna told one.co.il.
Zito Ogbonna has been without a club for more than a year and he fancies a return to his comfort zone Israel, where he notched up 37 goals in 116 matches for Hapoel Tel Aviv.
“Although I’m a free agent, still have high hopes and a lot of let the group take me.
“I think I have still football and who will give me the chance to make a comeback will hunger striker who can score goals.
“My dream is to return to Israel and start there again,” said the former Sharks ace.
After his stint with Hapoel Tel Aviv, Zito Ogbonna represented CFR Cluj, Kaizer Chiefs, KS Apolonia Fier and FK Vardar .
