Vincent Enyeama Hopes Nigeria Seal Second Round Qualification Before Argentina Tie
Published: May 27, 2014Lille goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has stated that the target of the Super Eagles is to qualify for the second round of the World Cup before they face Argentina in their last Group F fixture.
The South America powerhouse has been paired in the same group with the African champions four times in the last six tournaments, with Nigeria losing to the two - time champions by the odd goal in the decided matches.
“I always like to take one game at a time. In front of me, I have Iran, then after Iran, we have Bosnia before we need to think of Argentina. I may not even play in that game, who knows?
“Who knows whether qualification would have been guaranteed in the first two games, in such a way as would render the Argentina game academic?” Enyeama said in an interview published by New African Soccer Magazine.
“It is a game of ifs – one that I do not like playing. So it is not a game I am focused on just yet, but of course it is always a special feeling to play against top teams in the world and I am sure that a game against Argentina will always be good, and I know I will give it my all, as I always do. But right now, I want to take one game at a time.”
Vincent Enyeama has suited up for the Nigeria selection at two previous editions of the World Cup - in 2002 and 2010.
He has made 88 appearances for the Super Eagles, with 4 of them coming in World Cup fixtures against England, Argentina, Greece and South Korea.
