Falconets Coach, Peter Dedevbo, Rues Missed Opportunities Against Germany
Published: August 25, 2014
For the second time in three tournaments, the Falconets have succumbed to Germany at the Fifa Under 20 World Cup final following their 1 - 0 overtime loss at the Olympic Stadium, Montreal on Sunday night.
Hamburg forward Lena Petermann scored the game winning goal in the first half of extra time, firing home from six yards after Gladys Abasi was dispossessed of the ball by Bremer.
Nigeria Under 20 coach, Peter Dedevbo, has rued the missed chances of his chances especially by tournament top scorer Asisat Oshoala.
“Today, we had enough opportunities to win this match in the first half alone. But while we had chances and didn’t take them, Germany had one chance and took it.
“That’s the nature of football. I’ve not spoken to the girls yet but I will tell them to take this defeat hard and learn from it because we lost this game due to tactical indiscipline.
“We had a great opportunity to win a World Cup with the chances we had in the first half, but we threw that chance away,” Dedevbo told reporters at a press conference immediately after the match.
Rivers Angels sensation Asisat Oshoala was officially named Best Player of the Tournament and also won the Golden Shoe.
