Ardent Super Eagles Supporter Joins Stephen Keshi In Giving Kelechi Iheanacho Red Card On National Team Call Up
Published: September 25, 2014
An ardent Super Eagles supporter Ogbeche Steven has joined the debate about the suitability of Manchester City trainee Kelechi Iheanacho for the National Team.
In recent days, the media has been awash with reports that the Golden Ball winner at the 2013 Fifa Under 17 World Cup should be invited to the Super Eagles, even though the attacking midfielder is technically club-less at the moment.
“The truth is Kelechi Iheanacho is a top talent. He did well in the friendly matches he featured in during preseason. However, I believe that the idea behind the word internship didn’t come about by happenstance.
“It’s a template to gain experience, conquer the jitters, get properly polished and blossom to one’s true potentials.
And we should allow the boy pass through these stages to get mature and fully take his position in the Eagles when the time comes,” Stephen Ogbeche told allnigeriasoccer.com.
Borrowing a page from the production life cycle of the butterfly, Ogbeche has reiterated that Kelechi Ihenacho must distinguish himself in the Under 20 and 23 setup before thinking of being promoted to the national team of Nigeria, who are African Champions for that matter.
“Rushing the lad because he displayed brilliance at his level without passing him through capacity and higher level ability checks would be counter-productive.
“Remember complete metamorphosis still remains egg-larva-pupa-adult. It hasn’t changed,” he concluded.
Interim Nigeria manager Stephen Keshi is operating on the same wavelength as Ogbeche, and has ruled out a call up for Iheanacho in the nearest future, saying he is inexperienced.
