Published: October 18, 2014
Rivers Angels fullback Gloria Ofoegbu has expressed her delight at
opening her goalscoring account at the ongoing Africa Women’s
Championship.
The former Falconets skipper enhanced her reputation as one of the dead-ball specialists in the Falcons squad after scoring in the first half as nailed on favourites Nigeria beat Namibia 2 - 0 on Friday to book their place in the semi - finals.
“I feel so blessed by God and honoured to score for my country. Really, I was so happy because it was my first game,” says Gloria Ofoegbu to allnigeriasoccer.com.
“The captain wanted me to take the free - kick , so she told me to take it because it was from my position and the post was open too.
“She and Pepe encouraged me to take which I did and had the goal. I am confident we can win the semi - final.”
Nigeria and fellow West Africans Ivory Coast have progressed to the last four of the competition.
