Sporting Kansas Defender Amobi Okugo Advises Golden Eaglets To Be Wary Of Manchester United Target Matthew Olosunde
Published: October 17, 2015Sporting Kansas City defender and ex USA Under 17 international Amobi Okugo has advised the Golden Eaglets to be wary of Manchester United target Matthew Olosunde when they clash with the Americans on Saturday night in both countries World Cup opener.
The talented New York Red Bulls Academy fullback was one of three players that started every single game contested by the USA Under 17s at the 2015 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, helping his team to a third place finish.
“I don’t know much about him (Olosunde), I’ve watched him play only 2 times. Both games he showed tremendous talent,” Amobi Okugo told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Whenever a Nigerian- American is on the world stage we cheer for them. I hope he does well and plays like he can to help his future to pursue his dream of playing first team soccer.
“I’m sure he will feel some goosebumps playing against Nigeria. ”
Amobi Okugo, who played 6 times for the USA Under - 17s before his promotion to the U20 and U23 squads, has opined that the present USA Under 17s squad is one of the most talented age - restricted sides ever assembled.
Aside from Olosunde, USA’s team is brimming with talent, with Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic expected to run the show in midfield and he will be supported by Fulham starlet Luca de la Torre plus Danny Babir of West Brom.
“I know they are a very talented group according to pundits. One of the more talented u-17 USA groups in a while.
“A bunch of there players are signed with European academies and the ones domestically are bright homegrown talents,” added Okugo.
Should Matthew Olosunde be given game time at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos, as widely expected, he will follow in the footsteps of ex Newcastle United defender Oguchi Onyewu and Boyd Okwuonu, who played for the USA at the 1999 and 2009 edition of the Fifa Under 17s respectively.
