Fatai Alashe Nominated For 2015 MLS Rookie Of the Year Award
Published: November 04, 2015San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Fatai Alashe has been nominated for the 2015 AT&T Rookie of the Year award, Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday.
Born in Southfield, Michigan , the Nigerian - American was No. 4 pick of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 15, 2015.
Fatai Alashe made his professional debut in the top flight in San Jose Earthquakes’ 1 - 0 loss to Dallas at Toyota Stadium and started 27 out of the 28 matches he featured in during the regular season.
The 22 - year - old registered his name on the scoresheet in games against Chicago Fire ( March 23) and Seattle Sounders (September 13) and was credited with two assists over the course of the season.
Cyle Larin (Orlando City) and Matt Polster(Chicago Fire) have also been shortlisted for the award , and the winner be announced on November 10.
Since the award was introduced in 1996, two players of Nigerian descent in the shape of Maurice Edu and Tesho Akindele have been voted the MLS Rookie of the Year.
