Obafemi Martins Among Four Finalists For MLS Goal Of The Year
Published: November 25, 2015Obafemi Martins has advanced to the semi - final in the voting for the AT&T MLS Goal of the Year after beating teammate Marco Pappa in the third round.
To qualify for the final, the Nigeria international has been paired with Sporting Kansas City’s Krisztian Nemeth, who netted a spectacular goal on October 3 against Portland Timbers.
Martins had an excellent season with Seattle Sounders, recording 15 goals in the league and providing 6 assists and was named the club’s Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row.
If he wins the MLS Goal of the Year, he will become the first player to win the accolade in consecutive seasons since Dwayne De Rosario in 2004-05.
The 31 - year - old earned a recall to the Super Eagles for November’s World Cup qualifiers against Swaziland and featured twice off the bench against the Southern Africans.
