Eguma Congratulates Go Round
Published: April 04, 2016Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma has congratulated Nigeria National League (NNL) club, Go Round FC following their victory over his charges in the final of the Rivers State Federation Cup on Sunday.
United seemed poised to claim the spoils after Daniel Israel impressively put the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club in front in the 89th minute of the contest decided at the Sharks FC Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Thomson Stowe equalized for the lower-division side, a minute later before United won a penalty in the final minute of additional time to set the nerves of many jangling.
Up stepped former Go-Round left back, Chiwendu Ali but his effort from 12 yards was stopped by goalkeeper, Iboro Akpakpan.
Go Round FC capitalized on the huge shift in momentum to win the ensuing penalty shoot-out 4-2.
Eguma has now taken the time to praise the victors while ‘wishing them all the best’ in the Federation Cup.
“I want to congratulate Go Round FC for winning this year’s Rivers State Federation Cup.
“We would have won the match (in regulation time) but when we missed that last minute penalty, the chance was gone.
“They were better in the shootout. They did well and I congratulate them for that.
“This win will motivate them to do well in the national competition and hopefully, the chances of the (Rivers) State winning the Federation Cup title will increase now.
“I am wishing them all the best and hopefully, the trophy will come to Rivers State this year,” Eguma told Rivers United Media.
United will now turn their attentions to the NPFL where they meet El Kanemi Warriors on match day 10 in Port Harcourt.
