Forgotten Super Eagles forward Saviour Godwin scores match-winning goal for Al-Okhdood

Forgotten Super Eagles forward Saviour Godwin found the back of the net as Al-Okhdood secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Al-Orobah FC at the Al-Jouf University Stadium on Friday evening.

Godwin, who has also represented Nigeria at various youth levels, was a constant threat to the hosts throughout his time on the pitch.

The Nigerian international scored the only goal of the contest in the 24th minute, finishing off an assist from Awadh Khamis Al-Faraj.

With twelve minutes to the end of the game, Godwin was substituted for Ousmane Barry as Al-Okhdood battled to defend their slim advantage.

The victory pushes Al-Okhdood further away from the relegation zone, as they currently sit in fifteenth place with 23 points from 26 games, three points less than today's opponents Al-Orobah FC.

Godwin has been a standout player for Al-Okhdood this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 23 league appearances in their fight against relegation.

His contributions have been instrumental in securing Al-Okhdood's sixth victory of the campaign, marking their first back-to-back wins after their triumph over Al-Ahli FC last weekend.

In that previous match, Al-Okhdood secured a 2-1 victory, coming from a goal down, with Godwin scoring the winner in front of the home fans at the Prince Hathloul bin Abdulaziz Sports City.

Despite his impressive form, Godwin was overlooked in Nigeria's last squad announcement, as the Super Eagles named a 23-man list for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Rwanda in March.

Having previously represented Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 levels, Godwin made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly match against Algeria on September 27, 2022.

However, the 28-year-old forward will hope to continue his strong performances and possibly earn a national team recall ahead of the four-nation friendly tournament scheduled for June.
