Preview: Rivers United Versus Kano Pillars
Published: April 17, 2016
Rivers United face four-time champions, Kano Pillars on match day 12 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
United have been near-perfect at home winning all but one of their five home games this term at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Sunshine Stars are the only side to have escaped defeat at the 30,000 capacity fortress as they held the ‘Pride of Rivers’ to a scoreless draw on match day eight of the NPFL on March 23.
United will go into Sunday’s game smarting from the 1-2 reverse suffered against Heartland in Owerri on April 10 having gone their previous three games (versus Sunshine Stars, Ikorodu United and El Kanemi Warriors) unbeaten.
Ivoirian striker, Guy Kuemian will definitely miss the game against Pillars as he has failed to recover from a strain of the left quadriceps.
In his absence, the technical manager of United, Stanley Eguma will likely saddle attacking responsibilities to the duo of Chukwunonso Okonkwo and Wilson Andoh.
Okonkwo has been in impressive form in recent weeks; netting three times with the his two goals coming in his last two matches for the club against El Kanemi Warriors and Heartland.
