Enyimba Fault CAF Decision On Zamalek Match
Published: August 12, 2016
Nigeria’s flag bearer in this year’s CAF Champions League campaign, Enyimba International Football Club of Aba have rejected CAF decision to shift their Group B Match Day five encounter against Zamalek of Egypt to Saturday, August 13.
Both teams were scheduled to play their group B match but a statement by CAF shown that the match has been rescheduled to hold on Saturday, August 13 against the initial date which was on Sunday, August 14.
Unhappy Enyimba FC chairman , Felix Anyansi disclosed that Aba Elephants have rejected CAF decision on the said match.
“We are stunned at CAF decision, we got to know about this on our arrival in Cairo on Thursday night. We are rejecting the new schedule date, this is not fair play.
“The information available to us is that the residents have planned to stage a memorial protest for a poor incident that happened last year August in the country and Zamalek have requested for a change in the date of the game.
“This is not fair, and this is not what the rules says about change of date and time for a game. The rules says fourteen days notification to the clubs involve in the game, we won’t take this and we have rejected the decision.
“We rejects the decisions taken by CAF because it is surely against the development of African football, and not based on any statutory basis.
“Our key players are in Spain for NPFL - LaLiga tour and they are due to arrive Egypt on Saturday evening. Well, for the sake of fair play we can play on Monday but definitely not on Saturday,” said Anyansi.
