Ex-Nigeria Coach Amokachi Confirms Manu Garba Collected Bribe To Invite Players To Golden Eaglets
Published: October 22, 2016
Former Nigeria coach Daniel Amokachi has confirmed a story extensively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com during the Golden Eaglets screening exercise, that coach Manu Garba demanded for money before accepting players into the team.
Five-time world champions Nigeria will not be competing at the next Fifa U17 World Cup after losing their qualifying match to Niger Republic, and it can be revealed that Manu Garba and his agent Babawo Mohammed were both involved in unethical practices in the selection of the squad that represented the nation.
“For instance, in Nigerian football today, the youths, when invited to the national team, a coach will ask them to bring N250,000 each to get into the U-17 team when he already has the talent,” Amokachi told Vanguard Newspaper.
“If a person has talent, he should be allowed to showcase what he has in the interest of the nation.”
Collins Football Academy, who train at the National Stadium, Surulere, gave Manu Garba N4 million to invite four of their players to the Golden Eaglets, while Victor Osimhen’s rep Yusuf Shira Ayila paid N5 million to the controversial coach.
