Update On Ikeme Injury: Daniel Akpeyi Awaits Phone Call From Super Eagles Coach
Published: November 01, 2016Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the Nigeria Football Federation and Super Eagles coaching staff led by Gernot Rohr have not yet opened a line of communication with Chippa United glovesman Daniel Akpeyi ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Algeria.
At the moment, Wolverhampton Wanderers shot-stopper Carl Ikeme has been rated touch-and-go for the game in Uyo on November 12 after sustaining a hip injury in his side’s 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
It is thought that German tactician Rohr will need to comb for another capable goalkeeper in the event that Ikeme fails to recover from his ailment in the coming days.
Former Golden Eaglets goalkeeper Dele Alampasu and FC Ifeanyi Ubah star Ikechukwu Ezenwa are among the three goalkeepers invited but both are lacking international experience.
Akpeyi was in goal in the Super Eagles narrow 1-0 loss to Egypt in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in March after Ikeme pulled out of the rematch in Alexandria.
