Nigeria, USA & Canada In Three-Way Battle For Toronto Biggest Prospect Ayomide Akinola
Published: November 02, 2016
U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach John Hackworth has named the outstanding Toronto FC striker Ayomide Akinola in a 22-player roster that will attend a training camp in Jamaica from Oct. 30-Nov. 9.
The 16-year-old Akinola could add to his international caps when the United States U17s face off with Jamaica in international friendlies on November 2 and November 6.
He was born in Brampton, Ontario, meaning he is also eligible to turn out for the senior teams of Canada and Nigeria but it is the United States that are in pole position for his services, having handed him the opportunity to play for their U15 squad before he was promoted to the U17s in December 2015.
Per Wikipedia, Ayomide Akinola has scored 22 goals for United States’ youth teams, including 17 for the U17 squad, as at June 30, 2016.
The likes of Oguchi Onyewu, Maurice Edu, and Jean Harbor played for the senior team of USA, though they were eligible to represent Nigeria before they committed their future to the North Americans.
