Published: December 26, 2016
Sunderland wonderkid Joel Asoro has confirmed that he is eligible to represent the Nigeria National Teams, contrary to strange reports in the local media that he has Ghanaian roots.
The 17-year-old was born in Sweden to Nigerian parents and has caps for Sweden U17 and U21 squads but can still represent the Super Eagles since he has not played competitively for the senior team of the Scandinavian nation.
“Joel Asoro is a Nigerian and can play for the Super Eagles. His parents lived in Nigeria before they came to Sweden, ” a top source close to the Black Cats talent told allnigeriasoccer.com.
“For now, I don’t know if he wants to play for the Super Eagles or the Swedish teams.”
