'Next Dani Alves' Hopes To Become First Nigerian Player To Represent Man Utd First Team In 28 Years
Published: July 07, 2017Matthew Olosunde is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Republic of Ireland star of Nigerian descent Paul McGrath by playing for the first team of Manchester United.
Should the right wing-back make his competitive debut in the forthcoming season, he will become the first player of Nigerian descent to represent the Red Devils first team in the past 28 years.
Olosunde is inching closer and closer to fulfilling his dream of making his maiden appearance for United, having made their provisional rosters for Premier League games against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and training with the first team last season.
"Making my (first-team) debut is the goal," Olosunde said to goal.com
"I feel like I've improved a lot, especially technically, and I just have to keep working hard so I can impress the coaches and earn that chance with the first team."
The 19-year-old Olosunde appeared 18 times for Manchester United U23s in Premier League 2 last season, and his stunning solo effort in the Dallas Cup was nominated for the club's Goal of the Month award for April 2017.
