'He Should Have Cleared His Lines' - Shearer, Tony Adams Hammer Iwobi For Mistake That Led To Aguero's Opener
Published: February 03, 2019Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer and Arsenal hero Tony Adams have given their assessment of the first goal conceded by the Gunners in their 3-1 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.
Man City defender Aymeric Laporte won the ball from Iwobi before crossing for Aguero who headed home from inside the six-yard box after forty eight seconds.
Both Shearer and Adams criticized the Nigeria international for not attempting to clear the ball out of danger during the half-time analysis by the broadcast partner of the Premier League.
''It was very sloppy from Arsenal how they found themselves down,'' Shearer who scored a record eleven Premier League hat-tricks said.
''They get numbers back after originally losing the ball, then defending. The ball falls to Iwobi, because he's got no one to hit, next he tries to dribble.
''Every single Arsenal player is back defending. He just got to clear that and then worry about the afterwards but because there is no one up there, he thinks he'll dribble his way out and he gets punished.
''Wonderful cross in, Laporte and Aguero is free in the middle, very, very similar to what we saw in Newcastle midweek.''
Tony Adams added : ''He's got to clear his lines, really disappointing to give them that early a leg up.
''I would have been screaming at Alex, 'just clear you lines', that's another thing with Emery as his team play it from the back ...''
Laurent Koscielny restored parity for the Gunners in the 11th minute, but the visitors found themselves a goal down a minute to half-time when Aguero got his second of the game, then the Argentina international bagged his hat-trick on 61 minutes.
