Arsenal Coach Emery Provides Update On Injury Suffered By Iwobi Vs Southampton
Published: February 24, 2019Arsenal coach Unai Emery has provided an update on the injury suffered by Alex Iwobi in his side's 2-0 win against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Spaniard hopes Iwobi's injury is not too serious and the winger will be assessed before their next Premier League match against Bournemouth.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was set to replace Alexandre Lacazette in the 74th minute but it was Iwobi that eventually made way for the Gabonese as he felt some discomfort following a challenge by a Southampton player.
''I hope it’s only a knock, nothing more important. I hope he can play Wednesday,'' said Emery to reporters at the post-match press conference.
''Lichtsteiner has back pain, but I hope he can be okay for Wednesday, Maitland-Niles as well.''
Iwobi was not selected for the Premier League matches against Cardiff City and Newcastle United after failing to recover from illness, the only two occasions the Hale End Academy product has been left out of the matchday eighteen this season.
