Super-Sub Saka The Hero As Arsenal U18s Beat Tottenham In Potential Title-Decider
Published: April 02, 2019Arsenal secured their ninth consecutive win on the bounce after beating nearest challengers Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in an U18 Premier League Southern section match held on Tuesday afternoon.
The result means the Gunners are now four points clear at the top of the standings, with two games remaining for Ken Gillard's side in the 2018-19 campaign.
Five players of Nigerian descent were involved at Shenley Training Centre, with goalkeeper Joshua Oluwayemi and defender Jubril Okedina starting for Spurs, while Folarin Balogun, Bukayo Saka and Xavier Amaechi tasted action for Arsenal.
Saka and Amaechi making the Gunners match day squad showed the importance of today's game as they have been promoted to Arsenal's U23 team and have trained with the first team.
Manager Ken Gillard was forced to introduce the two wingers in the 59th minute with his side trailing 2-0 and it paid dividends with Saka starting the comeback in the 86th minute with a deflected strike.
A minute later, Saka played a key role in the equaliser as Lyons-Foster bundled the ball into his own net following a dangerous delivery from the Nigerian before Cottrell's stoppage time winner.
