German-Born Bazee International Future In Limbo After Pledging Allegiance To Nigeria
Published: April 04, 2019
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr recorded a massive success in his mission to lure players with dual nationality into his team when he made German-born star Noah Sarenren Bazee and Netherlands-born young fullback Tyrone Ebuehi commit their international future to the Super Eagles in 2017.
Two years after their initiation to the Eagles camp, Ebuehi has made his official debut in a competitive match. The Benfica man featured in Nigeria's 2-0 victory against Iceland in Russia.
On the contrary, Hannover 96 striker and winger Bazee is yet to make his official debut for the West African country and it's not looking like that will happen anytime soon because the Eagles currently have more than enough wingers/ strikers and Rohr isn't ready to try another striker until after the AFCON.
China-based star Odion Ighalo is Rohr's most trusted forward, and there is intense competition at the striking position as young players continue to emerge.
Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho, Paul Onuachu, Samuel Kalu, Samuel Chukwueze and Henry Onyekuru are all ahead of the former TSV Havelse's academy product in theĀ pecking order.
The 65-year-old boss doesn't seem to rate the youngster anymore, which could possibly mean the end of his international career with the Eagles.
Turning his back on Germany sounds impressive and courageous; however, his inability to break into Rohr isn't a good sign.
With the increasing number of youngsters making their way into the team, Bazee's decision to choose the African side could eventually prevent him from reaching his full potential.
