One Start In Five Games: Is Iwobi's Starting Spot At Arsenal Under Threat?
Published: April 13, 2019Nigeria winger and playmaker Alex Iwobi was one of the untouchables in Arsenal starting lineup during Unai Emery's early days at the Emirates Stadium.
Though Emery's decision to remain glued to the youngster was widely criticized by the Gunners fans, the former Paris Saint-Germain tactician doesn't give a listening ear to fans criticism.
Emery's trust in Iwobi's ability was so strong that Arsenal's highest-paid player Mesut Ozil was dropped to the bench for the the Nigeria star to occupy one of the offensive positions.
However, his situation seems to be changing at the Emirates Stadium as Emery no longer features Iwobi regularly like it used to be at the early stages of the season, with the Hale End Academy product starting only once in the last five games across all competitions.
Mesut Ozil is gradually warming his way into Emery's heart, and that is one of the reasons why Iwobi now finds himself on the substitute bench in recent matches.
Apart from Ozil's change of fortune at the North London club, Iwobi's lack of end-product is one of his greatest undoing all through this season, and Emery doesn't seem happy with it.
The 22-year-old winger has scored just five goals from 43 appearances, which isn't enough to justify his regular inclusion in the Gunners starting line-up.

We hope Iwobi doesn't end up like Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who was the Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper during Gernot Rohr's early days as Eagles coach but eventually lost his place to play Francis Uzoho.
