Abraham Becomes First Player To Score 20+ Home Goals In A Single Season In Six Years As Aston Villa Chase EPL Ticket
Aston Villa kept alive their hopes of promotion to the English Premier League on Saturday afternoon with England youth international of Nigerian descent Tammy Abraham instrumental in the play offs, first legĀ  2-1 win at the Villa Park.

Prior to today's contest, the striker has been in great form for Villa where he is on loan from Chelsea with 25 goals in 37 matches in the Championship.

Abraham had three attempts at goalĀ  in the match before converting an 79th minute penalty after Jack Grealish was fouled in the box by former Arsenal left back Kieran Gibbs.

According to OPTA, his penalty was his 20th Championship goal of the season at Villa Park, making him the first player to score 20+ home goals in a single season in the competition (including play-offs) since Glenn Murray for Crystal Palace in 2012-13.

Conor Hourihane had restored parity for the home side with a shot from outside the box

Abraham had half volleyed a cross by Mohamed Elmohamady in the 15th minute but a minute later Dwight Gayle pounced on a loose ball from Dave Whelan to score at the opposite end for West Bromwich Albion.

West Brom were reduced to ten men when goalscorer Gayle received a second yellow card and thus will miss the second leg tie on Tuesday.
