The Three Wingers Of Nigerian Descent That Trained With Arsenal Ahead Of Europa League Final
Published: May 16, 2019Arsenal continued their preparations for the Europa League final against Chelsea with another training session held at at London Colney on Thursday, May 16.
According to the training pictures published by the official website of the Gunners, manager Unai Emery ran the rule over three Nigerian wingers Alex Iwobi, Xavier Amaechi and Bukayo Saka during the workout.
While Iwobi and Saka have tasted action in this season's Europa League, Amaechi was not considered for the group stage matches because he was still recovering from injury.
The three players are in contention to be included in the match day squad against Chelsea as UEFA allows 12 substitutes in the Europa League final which increases the number of players on the bench to twelve from seven, beginning from this season.
Curiously but true, only one Nigerian player, Dickson Etuhu, has managed to feature in the Europa League
showpiece, back in May 2010 when he went the distance as Fulham were
beaten by Atlético Madrid.
Arsenal would qualify for the Champions League if they beat Chelsea at the Olympic Stadium in Baku on May 29.
