Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Nigerian defender Oludare Olufunwa has extended his contract with Premier League side Southampton.

The Premier League have published the list of players retained by the Saints, informing that Olufunwa has been offered a new deal, and it can be revealed that the promising fullback has signed a new one-year deal that will keep him at the club until June 2020.

He joined Southampton in 2010 following a successful trial after he was spotted playing for a local club.

Eligible for Nigeria and England, Olufunwa has made himself available for selection when the Flying Eagles begin preparations for their next major tournament.

The other Nigeria-eligible players retained by Southampton include David Agbontohoma and Roland Idowu who will be second-year scholars next season.

Agbontohoma joined The Saints from Arsenal last summer while Idowu arrived from St Joseph's Boys AFC.

Meanwhile, teenage striker of Nigerian descent Jonathan Afolabi has been released by Southampton, three years after he joined the club as a scholar.
