Arsenal's Iwobi Could Miss Friendlies Against Barcelona And Real Madrid
Published: June 21, 2019Arsenal have confirmed a high profile pre-season friendly against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Sunday, August 4, their final game before the start of the new Premier League season.
Gunners number 17 Alex Iwobi is currently on international duty with the Super Eagles as they prepare to take on Burundi in their Africa Cup of Nations opener on Saturday.
In the event that Nigeria qualify for the final of the competition on July 19, Iwobi could miss the friendly against Barcelona as he is expected to be given at least two weeks off to recharge his batteries after an exhausting tournament.
Another Nigerian doubtful to figure for Unai Emery's side in the Gamper Trophy is defender Joseph Olowu, who is still recovering from an injury he suffered last season.
It is a foregone conclusion that Iwobi will be left out of Arsenal's pre-season tour of United States, where they face Colorado Rapids, Bayern Munich, Fiorentina and Real Madrid as part of their pre-season schedule.
Arsenal are also scheduled to play Olympique Lyonnais on July 28 when they return from the United States.
