2019 AFCON : Super Eagles Winger Kalu Collapses In Training Pre-Burundi
Published: June 21, 2019Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu collapsed during training with the Super Eagles on Friday, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The player fell unconscious while trying to take a corner kick and was immediately attended to by medics before he was transferred to a hospital near the training pitch of the Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Alexandria.
Ademola Olajire, NFF's Director of Communications, has stated that Kalu's condition has stabilized and he has been certified okay by doctors.
The medical tests carried out on the winger confirmed that he was suffering from dehydration and he was advised to be taking enough fluids.
It will be recalled that the 21-year-old's mother was kidnapped in February this year and he had to make a ransom payment before she was released by her abductors.
It remains to be seen if Kalu will be included in the starting line-up for the Super Eagles Africa Cup of Nations opener against the Swallows on Saturday evening.
Manager Gernot Rohr admitted in his pre-match press conference that he was sweating over the fitness of several players ahead of tomorrow's match after a sickness bug hit the team upon their arrival in Ismailia for the second phase of preparations.
