Former England midfielder Palmer urges Watford to sign Nottingham Forest striker Dennis

Former England midfielder Carlton Palmer believes rejoining Watford would be the ideal move for Nottingham Forest striker Emmanuel Dennis.

Dennis was declared surplus to requirements ahead of the 2024-2025 season, but the summer transfer window closed with the forward still at the City Ground.

The 27-year-old was excluded from Nottingham Forest's Premier League roster and has not been selected for FA Cup or Carabao Cup matches, indicating he is not part of the club's plans moving forward.

Dennis is reportedly on the radar of three Championship clubs plus La Liga and Serie A teams in the January transfer window.

Carlton Palmer believes that a return to Watford would be the perfect move for Dennis, who is behind Chris Wood, Taiwo Awoniyi, Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi in Nuno EspĂrito Santo's pecking order of forwards at Nottingham Forest.

During his two tenures at Watford, Dennis netted 14 goals and contributed 6 assists across 55 matches.

Speaking to Football Insider, Palmer stated: "The Championship clubs that are interested in him are unknown, and we'll have to wait and see which clubs will come in for him.

"He would be a shrewd acquisition, he may go to Watford on loan again, we'll have to wait and see.

"Who would I see him being a good fit for? I think he enjoyed his time at Watford.

"He will want to get out on the pitch, and he will want to go to a club with ambition, so anybody at the top of the league will be in the hunt for that type of player.

"You would think that maybe going back to Watford where he enjoyed his football would be a good move for him."

Dennis, who has a contract with Nottingham Forest until June 30, 2026, has not played for the club since the final day of the 2022-2023 season.

Watford are sitting eighth in the Championship table with 38 points, two less than West Brom who occupy the last playoff spot.
