Super Eagles Star Etebo Reveals His Best Position And It's Not Defensive Midfield
Published: July 02, 2019Stoke City star Oghenekaro Etebo has revealed that his preferred position is as a number 10, adding that he is ready to play in multiple midfield roles to help his team win.
Etebo is one of only two Super Eagles players to have started all the three matches played by the national team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations and he was deployed as a holding midfielder in all the games.
Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr has been playing Obi Mikel and Alex Iwobi in Etebo's favoured playmaking position.
Speaking to Busy Buddies, Etebo said : ''My best position is number 10 because when I was growing up I started playing as a number 10, as a second striker but I can recall vividly when I went to Las Palmas we had two number 6s and then they had injuries.
''Three months to the end of the season they could not play so I was the only option to play in the number 6 position. I played six games or so as the holding midfielder. ''
The Super Eagles number 8 added : ''It was the same when I went to Stoke City. When the first gaffer came we played 4-3-3, sometimes with two holding midfielders with one in front depending on the opponent and the strategy.
''Naturally I am a number 10 and a second striker, that's my position. One thing I believe in, even if the coach tells me to play as a holding midfielder, left or right midfield, the most important is to stay as a team because we are going to achieve one goal which is to win.''

Etebo was mostly deployed a central midfielder in his first season in England with Stoke City.
