Leicester City Boss Running The Rule Over Three Nigerian Young Stars In France
Published: July 09, 2019Kelechi Iheanacho is among three players of Nigerian descent training with Leicester City first team at their get-together in Evian-les-Bains.
The Foxes number 8 was excluded from Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations roster as Gernot Rohr preferred Sporting Charleroi's Victor Osimhen, and he reported to pre-season training last Friday.
Iheanacho struggled last season for club and country and will be determined to impress manager Brendan Rodgers in south-east France, especially as the King Power Stadium outfit acquired Ayoze Perez from Newcastle United, which may see him falling behind in the pecking order of strikers.
Brendan Rodgers is also running the rule over two outstanding players in the Leicester City Academy, left-back Calvin Ughelumba and striker Layton Ndukwu in France.
With a number of players yet to show up for pre-season training due to international commitments, Ughelumba and Ndukwu have been promoted to first team training, and will be hoping to catch the eye of the manager.
Leicester City's first pre-season game will be against Scunthorpe United on July 16 before facing Cheltenham Town, Cambridge United, Rotherham United, Stoke City and Atalanta.
