Iwobi Shocked Over Egypt, Morocco's AFCON Exits
Published: July 11, 2019Alex Iwobi who was impressive in Nigeria's 2-1 win over South Africa has expressed his shock over the elimination of AFCON hosts Egypt and fellow north African side Morocco from the tournament.
Iwobi was handed the playmaking role for Nigeria in the absence of John Mikel Obi against Bafana Bafana.
“The exit of the hosting team is sad. Morocco‘ s knockout was also surprising. We know the quality of Egypt players and their quality,” Iwobi told CAFOnline.com.
“It's not the first time for me in Egypt. It's a great country and everyone is helping and welcoming us greatly.”
Speaking about his relationship with Arsenal teammate, Mohamed Elneny, Iwobi had a few nice things to say about the Egyptian number 17 star.
“Elneny is a great friend. He was too concerned to help me in Egypt and he is one of my closest teammates at Arsenal," the Hale End graduate stated.
