Osimhen, Onyekuru May Be Considered For Next Two AFCON Games; Uzoho Left In Limbo
Published: July 13, 2019Sporting Charleroi striker Victor Osimhen and Everton winger Henry Onyekuru may be considered for the Super Eagles next two matches at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, Gernot Rohr hinted at today's pre-match press conference.
Of the 20 outfield players named on Nigeria's roster for the tournament in Egypt, only Osimhen and Onyekuru have not gotten playing time.
Francis Uzoho is in the same boat as the aforementioned attack-minded players, and Rohr has suggested that the goalkeeper will continue to be in limbo simply because he is third choice in the pecking order of goalkeepers.
When asked if Osimhen and Onyekuru will be fielded against Algeria, Rohr replied : ''We had two changes before the game against South Africa, the winning team against Cameroon was changed and it's possible that we will change again the team because I believe everybody is ready in our young team.
''We have a lot of strikers, seven, so we cannot play all the time with 4, 5 or 6, so the young are here also to learn.
''From our list of 23 players, already 20 played which is a lot and I hope that we can see also at least two other ones.
''It is difficult for the third goalkeeper to come in but we tried against Madagascar to give playing time to some of our players. Tomorrow the best team will play on the pitch.''

Stoke City's Oghenekaro Etebo is the most used player in the Nigeria squad at the AFCON, going the distance in each of the five matches played.
