Rohr Reveals What Impressed Him Most About Super Eagles AFCON Squad
Published: July 18, 2019Gernot Rohr has hailed the character of the Super Eagles players who finished third at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations thank to their 1-0 victory against Tunisia on Wednesday evening.
The German football tactician had positive things to say about the mental strength of the team in their matches against Cameroon, South Africa and Tunisia.
The Super Eagles were heavily criticized after losing to Madagascar but bounced back to knock out the defending champions in the last 16, and won the bronze medal after their semifinal loss to Algeria.
''What was good in this team was the mental strength, we had some very difficult moments, we lost against Madagascar after already qualifying but the match after was a wonderful reaction against Cameroon, so we eliminated the champions and then we also won a wonderful game against South Africa after conceding a goal, we were able in the last minute to score the winning goal,'' Rohr said post-match after the game vs Tunisia.
''So this mental strength, the reaction all the time when there was something difficult was very good and after this defeat in the last second in the semifinal, also the reaction was good today.

''This is a team who never give up, it can react, technically they have the possibility to play good football, to go forward with our young players.''
Rohr is under contract with the Nigerian Federation until 2020 and his next objective is to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
