Ike Ugbo Fires Brace As Chelsea U23s Thrash League Two Opponents In Friendly
Published: July 24, 2019Nigeria Football Federation target Ike Ugbo starred as Chelsea U23s thrashed League Two opponents Newport County 6-1 in a friendly on Wednesday evening as they continued their preparations for the new season.
Young defender Marvel Ekpiteta, who was called up to the Flying Eagles in 2013, was named in Newport County's starting XI which contained four unnamed trialists.
Despite Modou Touray opening the scoring on the half hour mark at Spytty Park, it did not dampen Ugbo and his teammates spirits as Conor Gallagher equalised with a sublime free-kick before Ian Maatsen made it 2-1 before the break.
In the second half, Ugbo scored Chelsea's fourth and sixth goals which resulted in a comprehensive victory for the young Blues.
While Ugbo went the distance, Tariq Uwakwe was in action forĀ 71 minutes and England U18 star Faustino Anjorin came off the bench in the 60th minute.
The 20-year-old previously spent time on loan at Football League clubs Barnsley, Milton Keynes Dons andĀ Scunthorpe United.
