Chelsea Number 9 Abraham On Target In 2-2 Draw Against Borussia Monchengladbach
Published: August 03, 2019Tammy Abraham was on target for the second time in pre-season as Chelsea and Borussia Monchengladbach played out a 2-2 draw in a friendly on Saturday evening.
If the starting line-up is anything to go by, manager Frank Lampard has strongly hinted that Abraham is set for a first-team role in the new season as the dual-eligible striker started his fourth game in pre-season.
The same cannot be said for his England U21 teammate Fikayo Tomori, who was a non-playing substitute against the Bundesliga opponents.
Goals from Alassane Plea and Jonas Hofmann capped a fine first half performance from Borussia Monchengladbach.
Abraham had a chance to open the scoring in the 10th minute but his effort was pushed wide by Sommer and came close again when he tested the goalkeeper with a low drive in the 57th minute.
The Nigerian Federation target converted a spot kick to half the deficit in the 59th minute and seven minutes later he was replaced by Ross Barkley, who netted the equaliser for the Blues.
Chelsea travel to Manchester United in their opening match of the new Premier League season on August 11.
